2018 年 11 月 8 日，加利福尼亞州發生史上最致命、最具破壞性的山火，
被命名為「營溪大火」（Camp Fire）。
縱使上年 2017 年 10 月，加州已相繼發生一系列破紀錄山火，
包括︰塔布斯山火、阿特拉斯山火、南斯山火（Nuns Fire），
造成嚴重破壞，直接經濟損失達 94 億美元。
再加上，今年 8 月至 9 月，加州接連發生史上最大型的山火，
包括︰門多西奧複合山火（Mendocino Complex Fire）、
卡爾山火、三角洲山火（Delta Fire），
燒毀超過 8800 間房屋，造成至少 8.45 億美元財物損失。
然而，今次加州「營溪大火」（Camp Fire），
進一步成為史上最致命山火，
換句話說，過往 9 年間，
雖然我們不斷看見有美國「食物搖籃」之稱的加州，
持續遭遇破紀錄的乾旱和森林大火摧毀無數農田、森林和村莊，
但是，單單今場「營溪大火」已燒毀至少 5.7 萬公頃面積，
摧毀約 18,000 座建築物。
由於火勢猛烈，多個郡縣的市民被逼疏散，
包括︰加州天堂鎮、茅屋區、森特維爾區、康考、
跳蚤區、巴特溪峽谷和揚基山，
並威脅巴特溪谷、奇科、森林牧場、地獄鎮、
因斯基普、奧羅維爾和斯特靈城。
2018 年 11 月 8 日日出時分，加州消防局首次接到北部巴特縣火災報告，
源頭是「營溪路」（Camp Creek Road）有灌木起火，
大火發生後不久，消防先鋒隊已經觀察到該區濕度低和風力大，
風速接近時速 80 公里，令火勢非常猛烈地迅速增長及蔓延。
巴特溪縣警長辦公室下令天堂鎮等地點疏散，並設立緊急避難所。
西米谷火勢強勁，燒至依山而建的主要公路，威脅行駛中的車輛，
雖然政府派直升機在公路上空投擲水彈，
嘗試阻止火勢蔓延，但巴特縣仍然成為重災區。
